As stated got a dell laptop recently and on its first charge I plug the cable in it recognises it and says plugged in, charging but it doesn't go up at all, the battery is permanently stuck at 5%?

Anyone know anything about this or have any ideas?

;) There could be few factors behind this:

1) Due to charger which is not in good condition.

2) Due to Battery's option in settings of your OS.

3) Due to manufacturing fault of your battery.

If the charger is not in good condition, it could make hurdles in charging. If Batteries have manufacturing problems or finally if the battery settings of Operating System are not proper.

I had a Dell laptop that did this after about 2 years of ownership. Ended up being the charger - bought a new charger and all fine.

Yeah, test with a different charger

But if you go into the BIOS there is a battery health indicator on most dells.

Also pull power and battery and press power down for about 30secs then reconnect up
