my compaq cq70 laptop has this problem when plugged in, it displays 'plugged in not charging', i first thought it was a fault with the power jack but after searching its a windows 7 problem. I tried a couple of fixes off the internet but none has cured it completely. It is better as it has got to the stage it was not charging, now the problem is when it comes out of stand by or if i reboot it, although its still plugged in its not charging, if i unplug it and plug it back in it starts charging again.

Any ideas guys????

Either a mainboard fault or the battery is possibly failing or not connecting properly to the mainboard. Try removing the main battery and use a clean 1" paint brush to clean out the connectors on both the laptop and battery. If the laptop is 2+ years old and you use it mainly off the mains power then its likely the battery has reached the end of its life. Everyone leaves them plugged into the mains - You should always allow the battery to discharge naturally then switch on the mains to recharge. This lets the battery power cycle the way its designed to be used. Keeping them fully charged reduces their lifespan considerably.

thanks for the reply, from what i have read its a windows 7 problem, i have replaced the battery in the last 6 months with a cheap one which seems to work ok. I was about to buy a replacement power jck but its seems its not to blame. No harm cleaning out the battery contacts anyways.:D:D
