Plugging a HDMI cable into a PC whilst it is turned on

Hello,

Would it be ok to plug a HDMI cable from my TV into my PC (graphics card) whilst it is powered on?

Reason I ask is that I would like to know if the below scenario is possible without damaging any components involved:

Start a game on PC in different room to the TV.

Game loads up.

Plug a HDMI cable into PC which leads to the TV in a different room.

PC automatically switches to the new output and the game is displayed on the TV.

I can't simply switch to the alternate display via Windows as I wouldn't be able to get rid of the dialogue box and switch into the game from the TV's end as the mouse and keyboard are located with the PC.

I have plugged in HDMI cables to on devices on numerous occasions without issue.

The HDMI protocol is plug and play like USB so yes you will have no issues.

Why not just duplicate the image to your monitor and hdmi tv? That way you wouldn't have to unplug or mess with anything.

Hold the WINKEY (Windows key) and tap P, then pick the 'duplicate' option.
