Plugging-in headphones doesn't mute speakers?

Hi,

Having this problem: when I plug headphones into the front headphone socket on my chasis the speakers plugged into the back do not mute, audio is played from both.

Windows audio playback devices also only lists one device so I cannot manually mute the speakers without muting the headphones as well.

Zotac H77-ITX-B-E motherboard (Realtek 892 I think)
Thermaltake SD101

I have the Realtek software installed and it can detect when I plug in rear speakers or headphone at the front. Also, I have setting ticked for it to mute the speakers when headphones are plugged-in but it just doesn't work.

Anyone have any idea whether this is a problem with the Realtek chip, Zotac motherboard, Thermaltake case, or just a software issue?

Many thanks.
