Plugging power supply to msi 7950 [Beginner in need of help]

I have built my computer and everything, but want to make sure that I am doing it right with the gpu as the manual was not very clear. I have a seasonic gs 550w.

So I have two pci-e cable things which have a 6 pin and a 2 pin on like this:http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/pcie6plus2.jpg

So do I plug the 6 pin and 2 pin cable into the power supply or is it just the six pin. On the power supply which looks like this

there are two 8 pin holes, I know I have to plug two cables in to each separate hole but do I plug the 6 pin one in or both and also if I only need to plug hte 6 pin lead in does it matter where I plug it in like on the left or right side of the hole.
 
howmany holes does the 7950 have? two 8 pin sockets? if so you need two 8pin power plugs from your psu,they only clip in one way
 
i thought the msi twin frozr 3 only had two 6 pin connectors that's what is in the picture you linked and what i have seen on net about it so you just need to plug in the two 6 pin parts of the connectors and leave the extra two pins hanging.
 
I am pretty sure there is 8 pins on my gpu, and if there is do I need to plug the 6 pin and the 2 pin into the gpu.
 
just so you dont get confused,dont plug the 2pin plug thats dangling into the other 8pin socket

your psu should have two 6pin plugs with two pins detached,you need to use all 6and the 2 left over in one 8pin socket,and same for the other 8pin socket
 
I have the gigabyte version of this card. You should have two six pin leads with the 2 pin loose from the 6 pin connector. Only plug in the 6 pin part and leave the 2 pin that is loose just dangling.
 
After looking there is one 6 pin socket and one 8 pin socket. Do both of these sockets need a cable plugged into them
 
yeah just connect together the two pin to the six pin and plug it into the 8pin socket,then just plug the 6pin in and leave the two pin dangling from the psu lead

ok, so in the 8 pin socket I should put in the 6 pin and 2 pin cable and in the 6 pin socket I should put in the 6 pin cable and leave the 2 pin cable alone.

Sorry for this, just being thorough, I don't want to destroy my gpu.
