pluging in router before activation?

My internet goes live on the 11th but the letter (sky) tells you not to plug the router in before, is there any harm in doing so?

I'm assuming its to stop people phoning up and saying the internet is not working.

That is exactly why sky tell you this. There is no harm in plugging in your router before this date. It will not damage anything or make any difference.
