bear with an idiot on this but:

i bought some plugs and leads for a 1998 galaxy(without looking at the engine) and didn't try swapping the plugs and leads until today. i can see where the plugs go so that's not an issue however:

where are the leads? is the metal assembly attached to the top of the plugs just it? i have been sold a set of leads with 2 spark plug(i'm assuming as they look like old fashioned leads) connectors and an electrical plug in connector. had a look today and couldn't for the life of me see where it goes and i can't find a suitable wiring diagram on the internet. so frustrating. :(

everything on this galaxy is so difficult to do. :(
 
Unlucky mate - pics would help?

I've just literally put new spark plugs into a 1.6 Mondeo this morning, looks like it might need new leads too.
 
Sounds like your Galaxy has coilpacks?

Leads would normally go directly from the top of your spark plug to a distributer/coilpack. But sounds to me like these "boxes" attach to the top of your spark plugs, ie. they are individual coil packs.
 
coil on plug, coil packs tend to be on wasted spark setups and still have HT leads
