Plugs for paving slabs

I have a cantilever parasol that i'm wanting to mount directly to a paving slab (then bury under some slate so it looks nice). As pavers aren't mega thick, whats the best type to use? The paver is a 3 foot x 2 foot and 1.5 inch or so thick. Im guessing the full on metal ones would just crack it due to it not being a solid block.

Are you not best off drilling fully through the paving slab and bolting it with a really big washers/metal plates on the back? At least it can never ever pull out then.

. Handily I can get some 6 mm alloy plate from work.

drill a deep hole, tap a correctly sized length of pipe in, job done
