quick query for those in the know please ...

I had an old central heating system converted about 2 years ago.

now has a Condensing boiler, plus a whole host of mods to allow that.

query though please ... the Glowworm boiler has a temp on the front, with dial to adjust for the "water loop temp" (I presume)

what should this be set to ?

I originally set it to the highest that meant the radiators did not burn you if you touched them - about 69-70C .. but I'm not sure thats the most effecient after further reading.

any ideas to what it should be please ?

dial in the middle is probably about 55C - right to the right (highest) is about 75C

cheers, Mark.

Maximum is the most effecient as it allows the boiler to fully use all of the gas available to it. Usually this is about 80C, which is probably too hot to be flowing around your radiators. To be honest you won't see too much of a difference, just set it to what you're comfortable with. If you've got thermostats on your radiators then the water temperature will simply control the speed at which the rooms heat up, so whack it up to full :)

Most efficient heat transfer occurs when there is a greater temp difference between the two....sooo if your rads are red hot and the air temp in your house is not, then the transfer of heat is greater.. Apparently :)

Bit pointless if your going to fry yours or little ones fingers on the rads, or if you dont have something like a smart digi stat looking after your house temp & correctly set Thermostatic rad valves..

If you have the boiler stat set to lower temp then it will be running for longer taking more time to get your house upto temp.

You could do an experimant by trying both and taking gas meter readings over a week period or something, if you wanna..

I thought that very low but on all the time was best, as there was minimal effort needed to maintain a temp rather than actually heat up a room every time. ?

We did a lot of testing of this when we got a huge bill. Basically when we bought the house we was told to set it to a comfortable temp and leave it there.

The bill was huge. We was also told to have the boiler set to max as this was the most efficient.

It didnt work out that way for us, we tried loads of different ways and settings and monitored our usuage til we got it right.

thanks very much to you all for your replies ! - each one food for thought - we'll experiment :)

thanks for taking the time to reply :)

cheers, Mark.
