Plumbing - Electric shower vs instant water heater...

Hi everyone,

At the moment I'm using a Triton T80z (8.5kw) shower and (3.5kw) ariston water storage heater for my bathroom tap.

I'm looking to redo another bathroom I have but this time use a Redring Powerstream Unvented Instantaneous Water Heater 12kw for the shower (with therm mixer taps) and the sink tap.

But I was wondering if anyone has done a direct comparison between a real electric shower and the instantaneous heater and could give some real advice.

I've got some questions:
How is the flow rate in comparison
How long do they last for needing to be replaced
Which would be the better method of doing things
How does the snowy winters we are now having affect the temp (I know it will reduce it - but which would give a high temp/flow rate).

Thank you

We use them for flats, to supply sink and basin only. The shower has it's own electric shower. The advantage for us is keeping gas out of the property and all the checks/yearly costs that entails.

Seeing one in action I would say the Redring would definately struggle with a shower and as for reliability/life span I think the only problem we've had so far is every now and again some have triped out and the reset button is located inside the case which means it's not really something i'd like the tenant to do.(perhaps this has been rectified on newer models?). I'd say the last unit we fitted was around 3 yrs ago and it's still going strong.

Thanks for your reply on this. The one's you've seen are they the 12Kw one or the smaller KW units?

Because at the moment I'm thinking surely the 12kw model must be better than a 8.5kw electric shower?

Have you checked to see if you have high enough water pressure for a 12Kw shower ??

I don't even have enough water pressure to use 8.5Kw shower in my home :(
