Hi all, hope someone can help.

We had a leaking waste trap under the sink in the kitchen. I replaced this with a new one but after fitting it our dishwasher would not work properly. It seems the connector on the new trap won't let the water drain.

I checked the hose and it has a bit inside which stops the water coming out but if I push this in the water drains and the dishwasher.

I've checked the new connection vs the old and they are the same.

Any ideas?

The bit you push in is it on the dishwasher hose? Could be a non return valve on the wrong way.

Waste pipes really tend not to have any such issues tbh. The most obvious things have already been said - either the blank's still in there or a non-return valve was fitted the wrong way around.
I just completed a massive plumbing project for the first time and had no problems whatsoever.

Let us know what you find out redfist - very interested in finding out what it is.

Well, had a look tonight and it's not the blank. Could be the non-return valve but the thing I don't get is the same pipe worked in the old connector, nothing's changed. Even compared both connectors and the are the same?

Thinking that I might need to pay someone to come and have a look but it feels like I'm just throwing money away if I do that.

Thanks anyway guys.

Here's the pics, hope I've done this right.... anyway as mentioned earlier this worked in the old connector so really not sure what's happening now

Check there isn't a blanking plate on the part that you attach to the existing pipe work. I.e. Not the bit you are holding but the other end you twist to attach/detach.

I've done this before myself :D

If water runs freely away down the sink then it can only be from the dishwasher to the first part of the trap where the dishwasher connects to the trap.

Unscrew the nut on the trap where the dishwasher connects and see if its clear.

Second option is to run the dishwasher and see if it emptys into a bucket or emty into the top of the sink. Dont forget to blank the end of the connector on the trap.

The water runs freely and the connector is clear. Have also tried as above but this is where it stops as the non-return valve needs to be pressed for water to drain.

I've fitted loads of washing machines but never noticed something sat in the waste like that- my money is it's not meant to be there like that. I've never fitted a check valve on the waste iutlet, you just hook the waste high over back panel before connecting to spigot on trap which is higher than water level in trap.

Without physically looking at, it's hard to tell from pictures, is it possible that check valve is part of the washing machine? It could have traveled and got stuck where rubber socket joins flexi.

Unfortunately I can't check at the back of the machine as it's a inbuilt one, think I'm going to have call someone alas I really hate doing the dishes by hand

To me that black thing looks like a blanking plug that "was" on the end of the trap but is now half way down the waste pipe. May it have got there when you pushed the waste onto the trap

Didn't think of that, will check the store I brought the bits from and see if that's there! Thanks so little bit of hope for the weekend!
