Plumbing Thread - Washing Machine hose pipe connector?

Recently moved residence and trying to plumb in our washing machine.

We have a cold and hot feed which is what the previous tennants used.

There is no individual switch on each pipe to turn it off. SO you either switch it off at the mains, or you get flooded.

When the previous tenant left, they looped the hot to the cold pipe. Hope this makes sense so far.

Our Washing machine only requires a cold water feed.

Can I get a CAP or something to put on the hot water pipe?

A link to somewhere selling the item would be great so I know exactly what im looking for.

Many Thanks.

You will be wanting a 15mm Compression stop end

Will cost you no more than a quid and pretty easy to fit.

Just turn water off at mains and swap the Washing machine valve for the stop end.

I cannot believe the previous tenants have looped the hot and cold (open) together, get this sorted asap as it will cause a lot of problems

A link to somewhere ffs get down to a diy store!

I would suggest putting two stoppers on both pipes, that way you can turn them on and off easy. They will be std screw on fittings, make sure you use a bit of pipe jointing paste on the threads too.

You can even get pushfit blanks if thats any easier. just get a 15mm one, then turn off the water, cut the pipe so it has a decent end.. then pop on the blank

or like someone said. compression ones are just as easy with a couple of shifters

Thats what I intended to do.

Just wanted to make sure I knew exactly what I was asking for :)

Yes you want to ask for a washing machine valve for the cold end. The washing machine connectors screw directly to this. Looks like this. I dont think you need the one with the check valve in the other link this is something to do with water regs perhaps its a new thing.

And cap off the hot end as directed. I never used to trust pushfit but now I think I do. If you have to cut the pipe, use a circular pipe cutter, not a hack saw. It might have a nice neat end anyway, they might have had some pushfit on it which they took away with them.

Thanks.

So I need one of those for the cold and one of these for the hot:

If I get a different Washer in the future, I just get a washing machine valve as mentioned above except for the hot end?

On closer inspection, it appears as though, it does have the stoppe valves connected although the red and blue plastic bits have fallen off at some point leaving a nobbly thing which I could probbaly turn with some pliars. Im guessing I cant screw anything onto this and will need to cut it off?

Connecting the mains cold water supply to the hot as the previous tenants allegedly did, in the way described, contravenes water regulations.

Interesting to know... but little I can do.

I just want my washer to work :)

No, you cut the old ones off and these simply push on :)

Where can I get a pipe cutter? The pipes are currently close to the wall.

if theyre close to the wall its unlikely a pipe cutter will fit around it . just use a junior hacksaw , or normal hacksaw if it will fit in

de bur it with a file or sandpaper before putting it in any fittings though

Sounds like you already have one of these on each pipe, so use a screwdriver to turn the centre bit 90 degrees to close the supply.

You could also fit one of these to the back of the washing machine too, if you want to keep both feeds.

Have turned off the hot water supply using the tap underneat the boiler in preperation of installing a stop end.

When trying to remove the red hose from the washing machine connectorm, water appears to be coming out. Too scared to fully remove. Have removed 2 pints so far.

Not a drop of water coming out the hot taps though.

How much water can come out before its drained or should none be coming out at all?
