Are they for real? Honestly I am gobsmacked! I have been with them for over a year and had one of their crappy little routers. I found out that they are doing their version version of the BT Home Hub 5 so I asked if I could have one?

Check out this reply I got:

At that price you can get a much better router than the HH5.

If you really want it though, might as well go with option 3, seems to be the cheapest option.

It's free if you re-contract. I don't see how this is scandalous - why would they give you something if you're then free to leave next week

I have the BT Home Hub 5 as I was with BT before and it works with Plusnet.

My argument is the price they are asking for their hub and trying to get you to sign up for longer. Shocking!

I still have 9 Months left on my contract so I can't exactly leave next week can I? doh

£100 is a bit steep (considering BT will sell you their new SmartHub for £50) but I'm not really seeing the big issue here. They obviously want you to continue being a customer, it's how these things work.

Want you to still be a customer by charging silly money? It has the opposite to me.

Re-contract for 12 months (edit: maybe 18) then and extend your total commitment period by 3 months (see earlier edit). This is how everybody operates when they are giving you equipment.

I'm struggling to see your complaint to be honest - consumer broadband has razor thin margins, they want to know that they will continue to have 12 months of revenue from you if they send you out a new router. If you don't want to commit to extending your minimum term then they won't give you free hardware. I wouldn't recommend the £99 option, easier to just grab a Hub 5B off eBay.

Doesn't matter though, does it? You're stuck in a contract with them for 9 months regardless and if they offer you a decent deal and a new router at the end they know you'll be more inclined to stay anyway.

Not me though :)

No, you simply don't get your new Home Hub.
Plusnet are happy - they still get another 9 months of payment out of you and they haven't had to give you some new equipment.
Nose off to spite face jumps to mind really.

So you took a 2? year deal and now want to change the equipment for an HH5, apart from the fact i'm now wondering what you've been smoking as the HH5 is hardly 'great' then I don't see the problem. You can either pay the asking price, extend your contract and get it at the new customer rate or go out and buy your own kit. If you've lasted this long with what you have then what's the sudden issue? I hated the supplied router, but it was stable and worked till I chose to replace it at my cost. Try asking most ISP's if you can change the equipment mid contract for free and see how you get on, the answer is usually that unless it's faulty you can jog on.

I was just pointing out the shocking price Plusnet are asking, and it is a shocking price in my opinion.

Theys just pulled a figure out of their backsides as they know too well that nobody will pay it when they can just get it free when they sign up again.
