Plusnet ping spikes & packet loss

For the last couple of weeks i have been suffering with terrible packet loss and ping fluctuations. Phoned plusnet and after about 30 mins of troubleshooting it was found that nothing was wrong on their end, supposedly. They did say an engineer could be sent out but if it was my equipment i'd have to pay something like £130 (lol. no chance).

After thoroughly checking all my equipment nothing was found to be wrong. I have got a BQM monitoring my connection and as you can see the ping is all over the place, even at times when usage on my router is pretty much nothing. Ran i quiet line test and it was completely silent.

Exchange congestion? Anyone got any more ideas? :( Any online gaming right now is basically unplayable due to constant lagg spikes.

What does a tracert look like to say google.co.uk? then do a ping -t on the exchange hop (usually the 2nd one in the list as the 1st will be your router).

Have now raised a fault with plusnet, spoke to an adviser that couldn't find an issue on their end. He tried to run a few line tests and some of the tests wouldn't even run. When trying to use the landline it just says "Sorry, there is a fault.".

He believes the problem lies in the exchange and that it's a probably a congested/faulty link. Some of their other customers on the exchange are also showing similar issues to mine, an engineer is being booked to check my line and the exchange.

I'm hoping you did that tracert on Wifi. If not you may want to look into why your getting 30ms internally.

Should be getting <1 ms on WiFi anyway. So there's something wrong there too.

Not entirely unheard of. The speedtouch routers used to do something fairly similar. The 1st hop response time was always a few milliseconds under 100ms. We need to know the model of the OP's D-Link router.

Good lord, 100ms is what I'd be expecting round trip to east coast USA, not a few meters away in the same house! Excellent kit there by speedtouch :o

This is mine. I'm on Plusnet Fibre, using the BT supplied Huawei modem and Asus Router.
