Hi all,

I'm going from a Virgin Media fibre connection to a DSL connection as I'm moving into a flat so I'm after the best connection I can get.

Is Plusnet PRO worth it for the extra fiver a month and is Plusnet a better provider than BT or Sky or are all they all much of a muchness?

Thanks

BT Infinity. It's BT's answer to Virgin Media. You can get speeds of 40mb dl/10ul (soon uprading to 80mb dl/20mb ul). Might be best to go with BT Total and upgrade to BT Infinity for free when it becomes avaliable?

Apart from that, Be/o2/Sky LLU are the best phoneline packages you can get. Very stable connections but the speed will depend on the distance from your exchange.

Interesting, so BT Total means that as soon as FTTC comes available I am automatically upgraded?

Does anything need to be fitted for the move from DSL to Cable or does it still work off the phone sockets?

Yup. Well, that's what BT told my parents anyway since Total option 3 is the same price as Infinity option 2. But our FTTC date is on the 01/03/2012 too... All they'll send you is a white VDSL modem which you connect to the ADSL faceplate they install on the master socket for you, then you connect the BT homehub (or your own router) to the white modem.

Everything will be supplied to you for DSL, still uses phone sockets so you'll be sent ADSL filters too but BT are starting to install ADSL faceplates which integrates the filters to the master socket (Well, it's what my cousin says... he's a BT engineer that deals with Infinity installation).

Thanks, I cant find anything about "Total" on the website and the mastersocket is in a different room to the PC just to complicate things! I dont really want to order a DSL connection on a contract to be told I cant change it when FTTC is available on my exchange but dont know how to clarify

All very confusing

Looks like they changed the name. Seems it's just refered to as normal Broadband now. Can call up BT and see what they say?

Ended up going with BT, pretty disapointed with the price inc line rental as I'll never use the phone, its the same price as my old 50mb (due to be upgraded to 100mb for free) with Virgin but estimated at 17MB :(

At least I can upgrade to FTTC when it becomes available

Thanks for the help
