Just told my provider that I am looking at moving over to Plusnet and their reply was: "I'd look at the reputation of BT in general and what impact their mass growth had on service levels. Plusnet are in the stages of mass growth and industry expects them to end up in the boat quality wise as their parent company."

I use the internet for work and of course gaming and download a lot from Steam sometimes, etc .. By moving to Plusnet for my broadband and phone, I'd be saving ~£34 a month, but unsure really with the this last reply from my current provider.

Can anybody shed some light on this subject?

TY

Hi there,

I use the internet for work and of course gaming and download a lot from Steam sometimes, etc ...

My opinion of our service would have course be biased but I envisage no problems with that lot on our network.

If you've any specific questions then give me a nudge (probably best via PM) and I'll do my best to help.

Best rgds,

I've been with Plusnet for a long time and I've always found them to be very good.

I currently use the Plusnet Pro package which gives most of my traffic priority over other (non-Pro) users. I don't think I've ever noticed the evening slowdowns that seem to plague the users of other ISPs.

One of the things that I particularly like about Plusnet is that although they do use traffic shaping they are completely open about how and when it is used. That means you can plan your usage accordingly.

I was with plusnet for about 6 months, had several issues and each time it would take 2-3 days between call backs, each time they would ask you to do 1 thing that required putting the phone down and no one would call you back again for another 2-3 days and they made you do several things before they would contact BT who were the ones that could actually fix the issue

it would be a minimum of 2 weeks to get BT to look at the problem and then it would take BT another week to book an engineer to fix it (the last problem I had took 6 weeks to fix purely because plusnet refused to book an engineer and that's when I took advantage of the fact that I'd provided my own router and wasn't tied in to a contract)

by comparison since moving to BT I've found it takes a day or 2 to get an engineer out and have had less issues anyway - max 1 week to fix an issue instead of 6 weeks with plus net

I've not used them myself, but several people at my workplace have, they had no end of problems with them. This was going back a year or 2 though, things could have changed.

i've been with Plusnet for 6 years now. To be honest we didn't have many problems except we have a dodgy line and signal is intermittent. We managed to get an engineer twice but the problem is intermittent and unless the engineer is here while it's happening he won't see anything wrong. That sayd most times i had to ring them the customer service was pretty good and got where needed quite quickly.

the other big problem is that traffic is capped (for me for example to 60GB/month) but that only applies from 8am-12pm which is when we use the internet most (4 people sharing connection and mostly watching tv on demand/gaming). Price for each GB after that limit is quite steep £1/gb and that obviously is bandwidth su download and upload combined...

I was with Plusnet, had a terrible time. Firstly they put my line at 512kb connection , even though my line supported nearly 20mb (i currently get approx 18.6mb down and 1.4mb up). I asked why the hell was i getting such a low speed and was told that there was noise on my line and if i wanted the speed to go up i would have to pay BT who owns the line £30 to up the speed as if they do they have to pay BT? I asked what they were smoking as o2 who i was with before had NO issues putting me on 20mb connection.
In the end i just gave up , told them to stick it up their **** and im with sky now and so far so good!

Got plusnet here, i'm on their unlimited package which is apparently only available to customers who have been with them for a while (upto 8mb).

Not had any problems gaming, download from steam always goes at full speed. Peer to Peer is heavily traffic shaped as you probably expect but not a problem overnight, I think you can pay £5/month to remove all traffic shaping. The support has always been reasonable and they got my line profile reset fairly quickly when I requested it.

The other half gets 6.5meg down using the 60gb package (or at least I think it's 60gb). Shes been with them for around 2 years now and hasn't had any problems apart from one isolated incident that I must admit wasn't handled well at all on PlusNets side (8 weeks with speeds of 20kb/s being told it's 'normal').

Apart from that, generally good.

I was with -net for over a year and it was the worse experience of my web life TBH
there customer support is appalling or was .. its been a few years

SQL servers are lacking in support also.. basically if your a normal .. surf the web / facebook type user you should be ok but if you need the facilities that they supposedly offer (gaming/sql/website )your in for a bad time.

Get Sky tbh or fibre from virgin

I have been with Plusnet since the days of dial up.... I would not consider moving to another ISP.
I consider Plusnet packages and pricing to be very good and CS is excellent.
Highly recommended.

My parents use them. They're on the el cheapo package which is £6 for 1GB a month or something, but they never break that barrier. Anyway, they seem really happy with the service. Can't say I've had much trouble with it either.
