Heading down to Plymouth for NYE. Any recommendations on bars/clubs lads?

Cheers!

hmm, its been a while since I was down that way but union street was always the place to avoid since it was full of ****ed up navy types. There was a big club there on the corner that was good back in the day but I think its shut down now. You have a number of bars around that area, the union rooms is a weatherspoons pub and there are a number of the usual bars along that road. The Two trees was always quite popular. There are a number of clubs around that area also Jesters would probably be the one that stick in my head for some reason.

If you wanted somewhere quieter then I can only recommend the barbican its a really nice area around the harbour and there are several pubs that are featured in the good pub guide (The Dolphin, the ship inn, The Navy) there is also the old plymouth gin distilery that used to have a bar upstairs not sure if that is still there.

Walkabout was on the corner. That the one you wee thinking about? Also isn't Jesters in Southampton? Never seen one in Plymouth (is it a chain?).

Dance academy or millennium will be the clubs that closed.

C103 - if you're into clubbing. It's on union street. It'll be rammed and entry will be £20+
Barbican for more upmarket pubs
North Hill if you want to party with students
Mutley plain has a few bars/pubs

I live in Plymouth so ask away if you have any questions.

Barbican, it's about the only place (a few pubs aside) I'll drink in Plymouth now, everywhere else seems to be full of navy/ janner types or freshers (ugh "I remember my first beer" springs to mind).

Walkabout isnt on the corner is down the street. The pub on the corner is the union rooms and that is the local weatherspoons pub or is it Bar One becuase they play music. It used to be the site of the old swiming pool and what used to be the grevan BMW garage.

The big club that used to be on the right at the start of union street was called blondes and it was done up and renamed millenium but it shut down again not long after. Its a shame really becuase that place was massive it has like 3 bars and 3 clubs all under the one roof, when I used to go there it was called warehouse. Dance academy is still there and hasnt been a club for a number of years now I believe the owner is still enjoying a stay at her majesty pleasure. Jesters is still there i dont think that place will ever close. If you are after a late drink and no where else is open on the barbican you could head to the clipper I believe that place is open to 4am most mornings.

But I would still say the barbican is the better place.

Hi, I was one of those ****ed up Navy types bck in the 90's:D

Is Jesters still there? I remember Oz & Blondes shutting down just as I was leaving Guzz and it being turned into a couple of bars and always thought Jesters would close/rebrand sooner or later. Glad to hear the Two Trees (Twigs) is still there though.:)

If you're not a matelot and don't want to get leathered as soon as possible I'd agree it's better to stay away from the Union Street(The Strip). Like Slade said focus on the Barbican and maybe the top end of town if you're more into studenty places.

Yeah it's Barbican really... Vauxhall is a big pub/restaurant on one corner and will have bands playing and is a fiver to get in, its suits too.

There is Dairy (pub) and Thirst (Pub/Club) just a little outside the Barbican towards the bus station.

In the Barbican across the water is Black Jacks, Barracude and a whole row of pubs. With the open-air front I reckon this will be a good place to be, pretty busy.

There is a nightclub called Annabels which is alright.

Most students will go SU which you need a student card for. North Hill will only be good for early drinking on NYE or very late drinking in Cuba (open til 5am).

Wouldn't bother with Union Street or C103... maybe Revs - always looks busy and a little more up-market and not into the deep end of Union Street ;)
