As you can see in my sig, Q6600 happily running @3.5ghz with Abit ip35 pro MB
8 gig ram, just got myself a GTX470 MSI twin frozr 2 now.

Now I want to upgrade MB/RAM/CPU well I know there is no point in going down the AMD list as my Q6600 stands up to them so I can’t afford to go i7
is it worth getting i5 760 clock 4ghz and some nice fast ram will I see an improvements over my current system.

Then I would sell my Q6600/ip35 pro/Mem & a inno3D GTX260 as a bundle to get some off the money spent on a new syst. any idea’s would be grate
even what components to get.
Thanks
I did post this in CPU as I'm not sure what it is under!

You seem to know your way around parts very well, you've got the right ideas if you want to upgrade. The difference between the Q6600 clocked at 3.5 and an i5 clocked at 4.0 is fairly minimal for gaming [I assume you're gaming due to the graphics cards :)], as they both have 4 cores and a decent clock speed so the graphics card is still the limiter as far as FPS goes (even with your fantastic upgrade of a 470, which was the right thing to do to upgrade your system). You could upgrade to the i5 if you wanted to, and get some good cash for your Q6600, but the upgrade isn't worth a lot atm- consider waiting till Sandy Bridge at least. If you're looking for an upgrade, check out the temps on your PC- you might need a new cooler. Also, what PSU are you using? The 470 is a very power-hungry card, particularly if you overclock it (which with all those extra coolers I really hope you're going to).

You system is still very good, spending on a SSD is good choice.

Upgraded to a SSD a few months back and not looked back :)

my last psu was 750 26amp and it could not cope with the 470so I got a gigabyte 550watt single 12volt rail 40amp as the card wanted 38 for its self but it works fine clocked the 470 as core 775/1550/1880 max temp 58c.
I have put my CPU back to 3.5ghz 9*390 again temp 53c on load cooled with Prolimatech Megahalems.
when I look at it like that its is still a good system.

If it was a 750W, 26 amp psu, it was ****. Good thing you changed it.

Stay with the Q6600 though. Brilliant chip.

yep I will wait till next year keep saving and upgrade when its worth it.
Thanks all for your help you have stopped me from wasting a lot of money.
Cheers
Dean
