Turned my pc on this morning and the fans all start spinning full blast, then that just stay full blast, it doesnt even post?

It post ONCE this morning, after a few tries.

After work i cleaned all the fans out, its just the same, turn it on, all fans spin up full blast and it stays like that.

I dont know what to do :( Stuck on my laptop which isnt as powerfull, so cant play the games i want to.

ps, ive noticed when the graphics card spins up full whack, there is like a high pitch sound, which is also there when im trying to turn it on. Ive powered up with the side off and if i press the middle of the grfx card fan, the buzzing stops. I take it the fan on it is kindof dieng? Could this be related to the pc not even getting to post stage?

Ive just put the sata hard drive into a differen sata port but its the same.

Please help, :(

Currently took the cmos battery out, ill put it back in 5mins then try to boot again.

Im dreading a hardware failure, im trying to save for a car i dont want to start buying new hardware

ok cmos reset, doesnt even reach post.

Ill add something i remembered, when this happend this morning, when i finally got it to post in loaded into windows at 800x600 and told me there was NO drivers installed....ermW WTF?

It loaded up once after that fine. Now nothing.

Is there a chance the cards died on me? Would this cause it not to post?

Its an X1800XT 256mb by the way, and to be honest ive had nothing but trouble with the heap of junk since i wasted my money on it :/

Never overclocked it or nothing. And if it IS the card, worst thing is i havent kept anything, threw it all away.

tbh, sounds a lot like your gfx is hosed. not much help I know  , I'd check all connections, maybe try a different card if you can get your hands on one. I'd recommend a backup of anything important if you can post, maybe boot into safe mode and try from there.
you might also trying going into the bios and seeing if all peripherals are detected properly, hth. :)

Update - Took out my cpu and turned it on. Its the same, fans spin full blast and thats it. CPU back in, fans spin up and nothing. Just stay spinning full blast.

Graphics card took out - Still the same ><

Guys surely if the cd drive / hard drives are broke it would still get to the post stage right?

Would it post if the graphics card goes?

BTW nothing even comes on my monitor at all, thats why i think its the graphics?

Or could a CPU cause it to not post?

You have to completly start from basics and try to find out whats causing the problem.

1) Remove EVERYTHING from your computer except your CPU. You don't need to physically remove CD/HDD but make sure they are unplugged from your MB.

2) Try turning on your computer. You should get some post error beeps telling you that your RAM is missing. If this doesnt happen then that would suggest MB or CPU

3) If you do get the beeps, try putting your RAM in and seeing if it posts then. If not the possible faulty RAM.

IMO if your not getting anything at all then I would think its either RAM or MB thats died.

its not a dell is it?

I built it myself, all parts from OcUk.

amd64 3200+ venice
2gb value ram
ati x1800xt 256mb
asrock dual sata 2

Ive unplugged everything and took out ram, i cant hear any beeps tho. Infact ive never had any beeps since last year when i built it.

How would i know if it POST with no image on the screen?

I swapped RAM with working ram from brothers pc and NOTHING. I tired his agp graphics card. NOTHING.

I took everything out except CPU. Nothing, no beeps, nothing. So im guessing its MB? :(

Can i just ask, why would a MB die after 1year?

Question: is your base unit plugged right in to the wall or is it plugged in to a surge protector?

I ask this because I've lost as PSU from a power surge while I was out one day. Its possible this has happend to you and damaged your PSU.

Even if it is plugged in to a surge protector since you've tried everything else I would try replacing it with a spare.

Its also possible a surge/faulty psu has damaged further parts of your machine but lets take it one step at a time.

Yes, it is in a power surge connector. But the power was off all night :( If the psu goes, i thought it wouldnt start fans up? The fans spin and the cd/dvd drive tries to read but nothing. Just stops, nothing on screen.

Do you mean swap the psu? I cant really i dont have a spare. Ive just bought a b-grade DFI NF4 expert. Im going to try that on wednesday when it arrives.

Ah right, well PSU would've been a cheaper and easier thing to try first but good luck anyway.

Surely if its the psu, it wouldnt power up fans/cd drives? The light on my graphics card even comes on!

Not necessarily if the PSU has been damaged.

Your plan for trying another board isn't a bad one, just not where I would've started as its a bit more labour intensive. Although I'm lucky in that I've got a couple of spares kicking about.

My theory was, if theres power going to the fans/grfx cd drive etc then surely thats enough power for the MB to let out the beeps. :(

Mobo diddnt work. I fitted my new one and the same thing happens.

Fans spin up, nothing else, no beeps, nothing on the monitor.

So its deff the psu then i guess :(

Any recomondations for a new psu?
