Plz Help Me - Unleash the beast (overclock the Quad core)

What I meant is since you are planning on using 2 raid0 arrays, I would have thought you would need 1 or 2 backup hard drives to keep a copy of all your data on. If one of the drives in either of the raid0 arrays fail, you would lose all the data on that raid.

I have been worried about that before which is why i keep my system files and data seperate and only raid the system. i hear the RE2 drives are very reliable but i might change my mind again now.

And if you read a few posts back, once I discovered he was doing multiple heavy processing taks simultaneously I said he needed a quad-core. Your (and his) requirements are highly specific - in games and general use there is no real benefit to having a quad-core.

But dude, aren't games irrelevant? as all OC'd Conroes of any flavour give more than 25fps provided the gfx card is up to it.

It's the 'general use' thing. Name one 'general use' thing, apart from games, that a clocked Quaddie will not win on.

General Use: Zipping, Unzipping, DVD 2 DiVX/VXid, Photoshop, Virus Scan, PDF'ing, ...Quaddie wins. What else is there?

That sounds better. It was when you said this " two 500GB WD RE2 drives in raid 0 for storage " that made me ask about having backup drives. If those 2 RE2 drives are going to be the backup, and not set up in a raid0 array, then that sounds better / safer.

at the moment i have two old raptors (74GB 8MBc) in raid 0 for my system and programs and stuff and one 500GB WD which is used for storage.
i move big files between the 2 drives very frequently (the raid is faster to i task on that and then move to the other for storage)

in the new system i was goin to get to new raptors (150GB 16MBc) and 2 500 WD RE2 and raid this for storage on the assumption that the RE2 drives are very reliable and would make access times much faster as it is a raid config.

I think i have been put off now tho lol

So revised plan is to get the 2 raptors and use my existing 500GB WD for storage and possible get another one and use them seperate (ie not in raid)

to summarise in both scenarios i have 300GB (ish) raid 0 system disc and 1000GB(ish) storage
either
1)2 x RE2 WD in raid 0
2)2 x Normal WD not in raid

Yeah i need the quad in that case cos i do a lot of "general use" stuff as you put it, and have heard that video encoding can take just 10mins (as appossed to about 1-2 hours on my current set up) i also like to do EVERYTHING at once cos im very impatient lol.

i do play games but as a secondary; im not an addict who needs absouloute perfect graphics and frame rates - as long as it plays to a relitively good degree (no jumps and judders) then im sorted!!
