Hey,

I read the horror stories about Hiper PSUs being rubbish with high fail rates but through nothing of it at the time, so obviously it had to die some time. I'm still not sure how or why but I'm just grateful it didn't take anything else with it.

I've got a temp PSu for the moment but need a proper one so I can plug all the HDD's n stuff back in. Here are the specs:

E6300 @stock -> has hit 3.4GHz, will be at ~3.5GHz hopefully
DS4 Mobo
2GB Geil DDR2
7600GT (not futureproof, keep some extra juice in the PSU for upgrade time?)
4 HDD's (various sizes)
Optical drive
Many fans

What PSU do you recommend for upgradeability and reliability with a reasonable price tag? If there is such a thing like the hiper but reliable and without any of the LED rubbish that will do nicely. I really don't know about PSUs and brands or I wouldn't have gotten in to this mess :p

Thanks.

I'd go in between them with the Corsair 520W, but suppose it depends what your graphics aspirations are :)

Yet another Hiper blown. That's two in two days. Yewen's 4th one blew on him yesterday. About time OCUK stopped selling these.

This is a good one but is only 500w. Should be more than enough for what you have though and will svae a bit on the electric bill.

Akasa 500w Greenpower 80+

The FSP/Sparkle Blue Storm 500w is also good here.

If you want a really decent one then i suggest the Seasonic S12 range. They are superb, but then again i am biased as i have the S12 650w Energy+. :D

The ocz 520w looks good at that price, just one thing to check with that though...only one 12v rail @28A? Also liking the tagan and fsp :)

Wouldn't a dual rail PSU with slightly more amps be better for future proofing and performance?

Thanks for the replies and help so far!

I'd say at least 500W & 30+ A @ 12V for the 8800 series.

Something like the £40 FSP Sparkle will handle the X1950 Pro etc without any worries, though. It really depends how long you're wanting to use the hardware for...
