Ok, just purchased one of these to replace an MSI FX 5700. (Yeah yeah, not top of the range stuff, but good enough for what i need it for.
) So, I get this yesterday and open it up, then pop it in the PC. In the install guide, it says to install the standard VGA driver before installing the Driver CD. On boot up, it says windows Add new hardware wiz should show up. Guess what? Didn't.
It just used the same drivers that were in, which i got from the Nvidia site not to long back. Strange thing is, it still using the MSI tabs when you click on properties on Desktop. These drivers were installed when I first got the card some time ago. Cant find an uninstall for these anywhere in Add/Remove
But thats not the real problem. When I booted up, the display had changed to a smaller Res, which I expected. After about 60 seconds, the display started to deteriorate badly with coloured vertical lines. To the extent that the text on the screen became pretty much unreadable.
As i couldn't uninstall the MSI drivers from the control panel, I thought that maybe removing the Nvida ones may do that? ( have no idea with the software side of things
)
On boot, nothing was readable. The text you see while booting was just blocks and lines. Into windows and it was the same lines as before, but this time no delay before they turned up. Problems trying to install the driver CD, having to reset the pc twice, because the monitor went off and wouldn't come back on.
Got the drivers installed eventually. But nothings changed. After around 60 seconds in windows, the display turns bad with those vertical lines distorting the screen.. Quickly checking the properties on desktop and see the two MSI tags back where they were and the card being recognised as a MS Starforce 6600gt?
Ok, help me out here guys. I'm not so good with the software side of things. So how do I install the standard VGA driver now and remove the MSI drivers too? Or do we think that this card is faulty and should have used the Nvida drivers that were already in the system?
Wont be able to do much with this tonight or tomorrow as I have things on, but any help will greatly appreciated.
Mainboard is an K8N Neo2 and CPU is an AMD64 3200+..
