I think I want one, but I'm really not sure. I like CAD, and its important for my course. I think that card offers hardware acceleration of CAD rendering, while my 280gtx does not. Softmods that convert 8800s and the like into quadro cards strongly imply that the price is a con, so what should I do.

If CAD accelerated by a 280 is remotely possible that would be ideal (and probably amazing), any thoughts on forcing the drivers?

the price is a con research it.

the quadro cards are the same hardware as retail ones. its only the drivers and software that differ.

because there certified drivers they charge a shed load more for them.

I have researched it. I believe I can turn my 8800gt into one of them, but not the 280.

Since a single driver installation seems to be used for all nvidia cards, I'm wondering if theres an alternative way to use the cad-benefiting drivers with an nvidia card. Specifically a 280gtx which has no professional counterpart.

there is a website that modifies nvidia drivers to work on the mobile version of there cards for laptops.
they supply custom files to allow the installation of desktop drivers that are updated more regularly to work on laptops, some info there might help.

search for "laptop video"
