Hi all, I'm past the bulky SLR days and my trusted Canon G12 is also my underwater camera so i want to keep that for the UW stuff..

I like uploading photos to FB while on holiday so wifi would be useful.

I've spotted the RX100 II for £299 with a good online retailer. Does that sound the best bang for my buck?

Your two options at that budget for compacts are the RX100m2 and the G7X. I went for the RX100m2 (it was £299 at John Lewis on Black Friday) after watching a few videos comparing the two

The RX100 can charge through micro USB, which is important to me for travelling - I can charge it with the same power bank I use for my phone. It has faster burst mode, a hot shoe (not that I'll ever use it), the battery lasts longer, EV bracketing, in-camera panoramas, and a tiltable flash to bounce the light.

The G7X control ring has annoying clicks. I guess some people might like that, but I think it'd annoy me. It also has a touch screen, but tbh I think trying to use a 3" touchscreen wouldn't be that much fun, and I can use focus tracking with assisted manual focus in place of using touch focus.

Having recently got the G7X for similar reasons as you I am really impressed with it. It was a tough choice between the Canon and the RX100 M2/3.

In the end I preferred the feel of the G7X, the touchscreen is really really good in practice actually (little things like touch-to-focus work great), great IQ and all that jazz, also it has better reach with the zoom which is always useful. I also just prefer having the Canon name as I 'trust' it more.

Heard plenty of things about the Sony models having build issues or overheating issues and just didn't feel as nice in my hands.

Canon are currently doing a cashback deal on the G7X too so you can save an extra £25.

MY RX100 MKI is still going strong...no issues with build, it's travelled the world, been covered in sand, water, extreme temperatures...still works great and takes amazingly good shots for a compact, particular in low light.
