Hey All

I have got 3 x Rocket 5ac lite running on POE injectors but i am going to swap them out for a TP-Link-TL-SG1016PE (first 8 ports are POE)

I have checked and the rocket 5AC lites need 24c .5amp to run and take about 8 to 10w, the switch takes a load of 130w which would be fine for 3 rocket 5ac.

the cable runs are properly under 50m each run. They work perfect on the POE 24v injectors but i cant seem to get them powered with this switch.

I tested the switch on a Unifi ac lite and it powered it fine. that uses the same 24v injectors - i just cant seem to see why the switch wont power them (tried with just 1 rocket lites but no luck)

Any ideas?

Thanks
dave

The rocket's use a 24v poe by design as they are destined for outdoor and WISP usage so lower power is better.
I can't quite explain the AC Lite however I know my old AC-LR was specced either 24v or 48v input as they are more enterprise spec.

You're kind of going between the lines. Have you looked at something like a CRS112-8P switch? will be a bit more but should give the PoE switching you want.

Hey Steveocee

Thanks for the quick reply and help.

Rockets do use 24v POE by design but i cant get my head around why the switch wont power the rockets as they power other poe devices.

I have already have the TP link switch but will have another at the CRS112-8p thanks

Not sure if i have answered my own question but is it because the switch i have purchased does not support passive poe and the rockets need passive poe?

Its not very clear at all but want to make sure before i order another switch like the CRS112-8P and being down another £200 odd :)

thanks

Pretty much, but you need to consider voltage too. The Rockets will want 24v passive PoE and your switch is an 802.3af switch so it's outputting 48v. There's a few different standards for PoE.

If you want to power a 24v passive PoE device from an 802.3af switch port then look at getting an INS-3AF-I-G for each Rocket. They'll take in 802.3af from the switch and output 24v to the Rocket.
