Hello,

So i would like to know is it possible to power a tablet over ethernet with the right router?

Obviously routers themselves can be powered over ethernet but can they themsleves power other devices over ethernet, imparticular an android tablet.

Using one of those usb/ethernet adapters i would like to be able to have my tablet wired to the network and powered at the same time.

Thx.

Have you already bought the tablet? I haven't seen a tablet that takes PoE. Or are you going to use the ethernet to USB adaptor to charge?

I already have the tablet, it doesnt have a ethernet port, it has a micro usb, headphone port and mini hdmi out. doesnt have dedicated power port, can only be charged through micro usb.

Considering there's no RJ45 port and I highly doubt any tablet or accessory supports PoE, I'm leaning towards no..

Google turns up results for POE to USB units (RJ45 with POE in, giving you a USB socket) - look to be designed for powering iPads in kiosk applications. Not cheap though.

{Edit} - Bledd's linked to the right bits and a good price
