Hey,

I've finally got bored of poor WiFi signal in the master bedroom so I'm buying an access point. It is powered by PoE which my Asus current router and eight port TP-Link switch doesn't support. Do you reckon I'm better buying a Gigabit PoE injector or spending the extra £20 to upgrade the switch to have four port PoE? Saves me having to upgrade my power bank from four slots to six...

Not sure if the Ubiquiti UAP-AC-LITE comes with an injector in the box?

Thanks!

It comes with an injector and that can be placed anywhere in the feed to it. For one device I wouldn’t bother with a PoE switch.

Its personal preference really, I have several PoE switches scattered around the house (Ubiquiti) and it just makes a cleaner setup. You do however pay a premium for the novelty of it.

I mean if you want to pay £45-90 to save a plug socket and a relatively small injector, I suppose you could, but you’d have to really, really value those extra few cm’s of space that a PoE injector takes up and that plug socket.

The used Ubiquiti TS-8-Pro’s have been getting sold off cheap (£45-60) for at least a year now on the bay of thieves, they are inexpensive and were re-branded as EdgeSwitch Pro’s, so are still supported. You could get lucky and bag something not awful for less, just make sure it’s gigabit.
