Just played the demo of Back to The Future and it was like a massive nostalgia-rush.
Anyone else miss the days when Lucas Arts, Sierra, and Revolution were banging out adventures every year? Despite playing all games, these are the ones I always return to.
Such a simple concept and yet when implemented in the right way, there's nothing like them. For me, it's the purest storytelling medium in games, and one where mechanics come second to atmosphere and story.
The Monkey Island Series, Beneath a Steel Sky, The Dig, Maniac Mansion, DAY OF THE TENTACLE, Sam and Max (the original), Broken Sword (1 + 2), Full Throttle, Leisure Suit Larry. Not forgetting GRIM FANDANGO (maybe the finest storyline of any game ever?).
Simple, intelligent, atmospheric gaming.
Did anyone play Heavy Rain? It was total **** but I think it showed there is still a place in gaming for this type of experience (well, all the bits they stole from Shenmue, anyway).
Look/Examine/Combine: bring 'em back!
