Hi - not sure what to call the little icon that accompanies the mouse pointer when there's activity going, so i just call it the hourglass.

This thing is the bain of my life ! I can have next to nothing on the bottom right hand task bar open. Just a few essentials. When i then go to open up my browser ( Opera ) the main page opens with Google, ( thats my choice ) but the hourglass activity icon just remains forever next to my pointer, indicating constant activity.

Now it doesnt stop me carrying on opening a website or searching around the net or logging on to forums. I'm wondering though is this slowing me down at all. The activity icon is not here while i'm typing, i should add.

Its disappears once i've actually entered a site. I opened another window while i was typing this, and in Opera ( at least in mine anyway ) i dont get Google opening automatically if its the 2nd window open or more. Google only opens with the first opening of the browser. But because Google doesnt load for that 2nd browser opening, i dont get the silly hourglass hovering around....but...when i go to google again, there it is, till i get onto a site of some description. It wont disappear while Google is sat there on the page

Is this a Google thing perhaps ? Or something wrong with Opera ? Or maybe windows ? ( XP pro )

OK..well i've eliminated 1 thing. Although i use Opera as the main browser, i still have I.E. on my desktop, and with Overlcockers still open, i opened I.E. ( still with google as main / home page ) and theres no hourglass icon.

Anyone know what the hell is going on ? I use Opera over I.E. because i read somewhere that it was far safer, security wise, than I.E.

Well i'm safe using opera it seems - no bugs on me !

Ah well - maybe a reinstall of Opera as suggested, or live with it. Strange that it doesnt happen when opening I.E. V.6

I guess it does suggest to the layman like me that Opera is the problem. Maybe theres lots of settings in Opera that i just havent configured...i basically downloaded it and off i went. :)

firefox sucks, opera is way better

Wow thats funny, coz i use both, its no way better.....they're both equally good, just a matter of preference.

Did you have something to add to the thread or just fanboyism?
