I'm working on building a new WHS.. and need something cost effective, that can easily handle 8 HDs. Needs to be quiet, reasonably cheap, and subtle as possible in order to keep the wife happy.

So far i've been considering..

  • Cheapest Asus P8P67 for the 8 SATA which then leads me to an i3 2100 or 2100T and any suitable 4GB memory kit, probably something from Corsair.
  • For the case it's either of Fractal Design Arc Midi, or Bitfenix Shinobi.
  • I'm a bit stuck for a PSU.. Strugging to find something cheap, quiet with enough SATA connectors.

Any suggestions, alternatives for the Mobo, Case, and PSU would be well received.

Been swinging backwards and forward between P67 and Z68.. Hadn't looked at MSI, but that's an option.. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-188-MS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1990

More investigations needed methinks.

Conan sig was bizare.. have just finished copying the blu-ray to harddisk, was checking it before reading your reply :)

and edit, yes that spec included the Gigabyte Mobo i've been wondering about.. That shopping basket is pretty much spot on I think. Off to read some reviews on the PSU. Thanks :)

stulid, any reason why your recommending the gigabyte mobo over the MSI GD55 one thats got the cashabck offer? the gigabyte is more expensive and, from what i can work out, worse
