Pointers on next car...

Hey people,

I currently drive a 306gti 6 and its been giving me cheap thrills for almost a year, I absolutely adore ragging it about at times, it handles like a dream and it pulls brilliantly.

I dont think I can live without the fun of regular gear changes and an exciting drive, however Im starting to get the itch for something new.

Im a believer in the second hand market and the idea of getting an older fun car is fine by me, however I think the next one needs to be a little more modern than my current motor.

Im open to the idea of larger cars too, I have a liking for saloons like the Galant Vr4 etc

If I said a budget of 5k what kind of fun cars would that get me?

Clio 172/Honda Civic Type-R/Mazda MX-5 all come to mind.

182, at that price range. Though, hope your not looking around here cars seem to be more expensive.

Which is basically what he asked for something fun but a bit newer than his 306 gti 6.

£5k will get you a decent facelift Galant vr4.... great cars

A 182 sounds like a good suggestion, how do they fair speed wise in comparison? Im not sure how hot my hot hatch really is when put up against newer cars, but im assuming they are marginally quicker?

Civics are great cars by all accounts and I love hondas but they are common as hell around here and I like to be different where possible. The MX5s seem great little motors too but I think the lack of space might be a bad thing.

And begbie I see what you mean about prices up here, not many cars on the market here so people seem to demand a premium.

Is there any cars that are quicker than my GTI6 for this budget?

Mondeo ST220 I'd say, or maybe an Octavia vRS. You could get a manual l6 BMW of some sort for this too.

I could find one 182 within a 100miles last time I looked too. Wasn't even a great example and overpriced!

I have saw 2 on base now though, which sucks. Is yours red? Think I may have passed it, if so.

Aye mine is diablo red and kicked to crap lol. its bodywork is poo but its engine still runs a dream.
