gotta laugh at this thread, it's your money do as you will
Most expensive graphics card I bought was the x1900xtx, costing £320.. To me that was like an extra special treat, having 'the fastest' card at the time. I look back now and realise the effect lasts for a month maybe two, then it's the 'next' greatest thing.
I contemplated getting an 8800gtx, but nigh on 500 quid for a card, I simply couldn't justfy the price, no matter how fantastic it was. It's interesting to see that while drives and most other pc tech (even the new stuff) the top of the range all come at the similar price point. An example would be the new quad core extreme weighing in at 10 or 15 quid more than the 6800. What I fail to understand is how nvidia can basically 'crank on' an extra 100 quid to the cost. If this is a trend that we are seeing I'm worried, I think back a few years when the latest and greatest was around 300 quid. Another few years will we see 800 quid g cards? Eventually will we see a graphics card more expensive than a very competetant rig?
If people want to buy the latest and pay the premium that's up to them, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a tad envious because it sounds like a great card, but unfortunately there's something in my brain telling me at 500 quid for a graphics card, that's just a tad OTT.
Just my thoughts.
