Pointless getting 8800***!! What games?!

None of us bought an 8800GTX as a financial investment, so there's no point going on about how they'll be cheaper in a few months time. We want the luxury of high-res, max detail, best-IQ gaming NOW, and we're willing to pay for it.

Threads like this only end up dividing a community. We should stick to discussing performance and benchmarks and helping each other to solve technical problems, not questioning each other's personal preferences or financial status.

As for "What Games?", NWN2 was jerky on my 7900GTX, even at 1280x960, but now I can play at 1600x1200, 8xQAA, 16xAF, smooth as silk. I can also finally play Oblivion with HDR+8xQAA, max detail. In fact, every game I have benefits from the improved IQ and ability to use 16xAA.

No the Guy is very switched on....I saw on another thread Him reccomending Buying the Products with Life warrenty's as being the best resellers. :)

Personally when I have decided to buy anything I like to think of it as an investment to Keep forever, I now realise the temporary rental approach is by far the best way.. :D

Indeed its a great way of having the latest tech.Glad you have seen the light. :D

Look heres Crysis in Dx9, and Dx10 here , see no sodding diff (apart from the yellow tinge effect), the **** effect as i call it (rhymes with miss)...
Actually, this has been confirmed as NOT being a comparison shot. They are simply the same two screenshots with different colored lighting. We have yet to see a proper comparison between DX9 and DX10 so it's not so wise to criticise it before it's even appeared yet. Even then, a static screenshot is an utterly lousy way to do it. If the hype around DX10 is as justified as the hype around the G80, then I think we're going to pretty blown away by the results.

On my 6600 running at 3.6G the out of the box performance of my Inno3D GX2 was just over 8K with 10K overclocked. 10,940 Stock and 16K Overclocked on 3D mark 06 errrrrrr, ummmmmm, lol. I think you have got that a tad wrong my friend. Either that or your running some 10Gig Quadcore monster. I'm assuming you mean 05?

lol that was cheap - I'm not such an idiot as to get 3D Marks 05 and 06 scores messed up and your silly to even think I did...

my actual scores were 9564 out the box, 10,940 with the CPU up a bit and just over 15K with the GX2 core at 700MHz.

Oh also despite most GX2s being basically identical I think gainward must have played around a bit under the bonnet coz for one thing its not running on 1.3vcore like most.

Hardly, I don't think I've ever seen one get past 13k 06 including serious cooling, volt mods and a 5GHz cpu. 16k in 06? Can't blame him for that response. Must be a world record, any links?

Funny my x1800 cuts through everything maxed out at 1280x1024.

You see here is the problem, to you your system cuts through everything with a x1800 @ 1280x1024, now I know for a fact that there would be games on your system that I would not be happy with performance wise, games like oblivion, fear, Condemnd etc, it all boils down to personal preference, I have freinds that have 9800pro's and enjoy every new game out and truly beleive that there system's run the latest games fine with no slow down, I envy these people, if they can enjoy games at lower frame rates then good on them, i'm just a fussy bugger and need a stupidly high frame rate to enjoy games properly on the pc, strangely tho, low fps on consoles games does'nt bother me I think this is b-cos I know theres nothing I can do about it so I just accept it.

Well guys just installed the BFG wet GPU thingy to go with my core duo extreme ( i had a x1900xtx in before )

having had to dump Vista because of no drivers and go back to XP all i can say i am amazed at the difference in perfomace and IO all for the better a great GPU only to get better with age and maturity

I use a Zalman reerator the tall one max temps after 2 hours benching and playing Oblivion was 56 deg C

I have the system that I have because I can !!!!!!!

better to get the 8800gtx than a high end core duo IMHO

I think you mean "better to get the 8800gtx *than* a high end core duo" if thats what you mean then I agree completly, that's whats diffrent these days, it was only a short while ago you needed to have pretty much the best CPU & GPU to get the most out of games, now you can offset the cost the best gpu (8800GTX) by getting a budget CPU as these days budget connies are more than enougth to keep up.

Yeah !

Does anyone know why these new DX10 cards were released without DX10 drivers ?

And I'm not quite an Easyrider convert Yet :D

I agree with the Basic sentiment but you do need them running over 3ghz min

No ones buying the G80 for Dx10, they are buying it for Dx9, faster Dx9, its a single card that is faster than Sli/Crossfire, who on earth is buying a G80 for Dx10 when its not released till the end of Jan, and with no games to go with it, theres only FSX thats out now that can use Dx10, and looks identical to what it does in Dx9, as will all Dx10 games as they can also be played on Dx9 cards with XP, its about time everyone realised that Dx10 is not a graphical change, its more efficient Dx9, allowing more objects on screen etc... as it takes some load of your CPU, thats all it is ppl. :D

My 7800GTX SLI setup couldn't cut through everything @ 1600x1200. But then again I'm rather fussy, and require a playable framerate, with settings that really are maxed out (minus the AA).

I'm also planning on buying a G80 for DX10 as well ;) Must be two for two to me. I wouldn't buy a new high end graphics card right now that couldn't handle DX10, and I'm sure I'm not alone in that thought process.

Oh yeah before I forget. There's a general slump in hardware purchasing at the moment due to the iminent release of Vista in january. Doesn't help that no major must-have games have been released that don't run well on older hardware. Good for ATI, not so good for NV.

I find this fascinating and you are clearly a strong candidate for medical research when you take into consideration the fact that anything over 72fps is undetectable to the human eye. Fact.
