I've looked high and low without joy.

When did the points system i.e. 3 points for speeding come into force?
My parents said that it used to be endorsements back in the day (1970's) and you would only get one for something pretty heinous.

Any idea or links?

was about that time as I got convicted very early after it was brought in, fortunately then speeding was 3 points regardless and I got 3 for 97 in a 30 ( oops ) :o

I did get fined 2 weeks wages though

in my defence I was on a bike and it was 3am

the endorsement system was rubbish as even if you committed 10 offences if they were at same time then it was 1 endorsement

Penalty points were introduced in the UK in 1982, this replaced the totting up of driving licence endorsements.

yea respect for posting it like your puffing out your chest for your manly 3x the speed limit.

let it be a shining example of stupidity and we are greatful someone in a car didnt think well its 3am so i can floor it on the same stretch of road or you may have had a little problem.

young person's immaturity and stupidity, also part of the reason I packed up with bikes, I knew I would kill myself if I carried on

you first line is not the case though

oh and someone in a car did decide to floor it, unfortunately it had blue lights on top

Don't forget back in the 70's/80's there were FAR less cars on the roads than there are nowdays, which means there would have been loads less people in cars speeding too.

We all do stupis things now and again. Holding it against him many years down the line is a bit wrong when he has paid his fine, taken his points, and presumably moved on a bit :)

LOL was gonna say, Rotty I hope you've learnt your lesson young man from your transgression 20 years ago :p

by the way he worded his post i think not, popular on the forum though so you will act like his best mates..

if it was anyone who just stumbled onto the forum and worded a post about speeding like that he would be flamed as we have witnessed before

why are you making a big deal about this? i could think of plenty of 30's where its completely safe at 3am to do a ton on a bike, never mind 20 years ago.

Not if it's 20+ years ago. If it was 20mins ago, fine, flame away, but 20+ years is a long time, and whoever has done it will be a lot less likely to do it now...especially as when they get old everyone drives slowly...FACT...:p

Did you have any offs on your bike? And how long were you riding for before you gave it up? Take it you had a sportsbike?

Loads, prob into double figures, worst injury was a broken thumb fortunately

Was riding from 16 for about 8-10 years

Medium sports bikes, mainly tuned RD350LCs

See, with me, I'm 22 on a k4 gsxr 750 and while it's possibly the best bike I've ever ridden, I don't think I really want to keep it going for too much longer as I think it'll only be a few short months until I have an off and get injured...

On the B roads I'm a bit of a loon sometimes, mostly I'm pretty sensible! I just think that I've invested way too much money in this and that if I back out soon then I'll feel pretty crap about it all!

How did it feel to just give it up?
