Seen on the BBC about some girl that thinks she has about 250k worth of pokemon cards.

now my set doesn't appear to be as rare (unfortunately the 1st editions i have aren't charizard), however i'm sure they are worth a fair bit of money in total as i have many sets, with almost every single card mint condition (thank god i had no idea how to play this game as a kid)

wondered if others have got theirs valued? I can see ebay listings, but i don't feel this gives a very good idea of how much the cards are worth.

Plus, i have such fond memories making decks and meeting up with old Uni mates I would probably find them difficult to part with. That said, if they were valued in the £1000's i think i could overcome my nostalgia.
Just to be clear, you think fond memories die just because you sold a stack of cards, rather than maybe just keep 2/3 ones to remind yourself? Also the lego thing come on, sell/chuck them too.

You're holding on rubbish for no reason. Don't horde. Sell.

it's amazing how much the Charizard card ended up being the one with the highest value. like no others come close. What made Charizard to sought after. I remember as a kid, getting a shiny charizard was the best feeling, while the other shinys i wasn't so worried about.

Some can of course, but many many aren't. You won't see any YouTube videos of the ones that are opened worth nothing. And even then, would I trust an opening video that has a rare charizard? I don't think so. If I was looking to make videos like that, I'd consider making a video where I first open one side, slide a charizard in, then open the other side, and many views later I'm making money.

I personally feel £50 on unopened packets is a bit risky. You will be likely left with a load of cards worth nothing. My collection came from buying them when they were £1 and trading with many school friends, and still it's not worth as much as I'd have hoped.

Must be a hard choice. You know almost definitely you have a basic card set worth only the value of an unopened set, but.... It could be worth many many many times the value if you open and find a super rare.
