I was wondering if anyone in the Kent area ever played in local tournaments? I got into poker at uni (which has now finished) and have played a little online and would like to test myself by playing an organised tournament in person.

I've done some googling already but its pretty confusing. It mostly seems to be about leagues and such.

I was just hoping to be able to turn up pay £10 to buy in or whatever and they play.

If anyone has any info it'd be appreciated.

Cheers.

You would have to go to a casino. Unless things have changed very recently only places with the pertinent licences can have cash games. Thats why everywhere is inundated with the league systems. Its the only legal way pubs can host them.

Go to a casino. You will be able to find low stake multi-table cash tournaments.

As of 1 Sept the law changed, the new rules are

£5 max buy in

£100 max prize

the "pub" cannot take a cut/fee etc

the casino rules have changed as well

it seemed to come in very quietly :)

Poker is really taking hold now, in 4 weeks time Europes biggest poker venue opens in Nottingham :)

, I have been invited to play in the opening weekend tourney, been thinking about arranging an OcUK trip there when it gets going

It's not Kent, but just across the river, in Southend-on-Sea there is a casino called the Westcliff, which has some decent tournaments. My friends and I play a home game once a week in the Gravesend area. Canterbury has a poker club as well, but I can't remember the name of it, and there is a Beckenham poker league, as well as a northwest kent league (Dartford, erith, bexleyheath, etc.) but I don't think they have a website. Whereabouts in Kent are you anyways?

The Rileys snooker clubs have weekly poker nights. The one in Folkestone does anyway, went there the other week when visiting family.

they do but they got clobbered by the recent rule changes, they have a max pot of £250 which has reduced field sizes and prize money
