Hi all,

I know we have a few poker put players on here.

What are the rules/laws about playing poker in pubs if you have to by your way in using real money?

I have played lots of poker in pubs around my area, and won a lot also.... as far as im aware, if they have a license for gambling your ok? ( but money must not be put on table).

i know some places have done it so if you "buy" a pint you get "coins" - aka your coinage for the poker night, it avoids "paying for poker" and getting out of the illegality of poker when you dont have the license to do so.

although picking up the winnings may be interesting :p

High stakes is dodgy ground without a gaming licence. Even in a private room not open to the public it is still legally dubious and is breaking the law if any charge is made for the room or taken in the form of rake etc...

Basically not worth it unless the game is really really good. Plenty of casinos, card clubs and home games about so no need to play in a pub anyway (unless just low stakes for fun).
