We'll have to get another OCUK poker comp up and running soon, but I thought I'd share my incredible fortune yesterday with you.

In the space of 4 hours I managed to hit 6 4 of a kinds and 2 straight flushes.

The straight flushes and 4 of the quads were in Texas Hold'em and the other quads in Omaha Hi. This netted me about £300 in Full Tilt.

I have to admit, this is by far the strangest few hours poker I have ever played. I'm sure that many of you will doubt what I say, but the few of you who have played against me will believe.

I have no idea on the specific odds on this occurring, but this has to be in the region of 5-10 million to one.

Was this online?, or at a table.

either way, i hope you mucked the majority of the hands because the odds of that run are vvvery high....

glad you made a decent return out of it tho

i can believe it happened, however, your odds need some more thought.
the chances of it happening in any given 4 hours is very slim yes, but over the amount of hands you have played (in total, forever) it would not surprise me if you were 'due' these hands, which means that over your poker life, you have not had anything that you should not have had in that period. if you see what i mean.

i used to hit quite a few big hands often, but that was because i was playing a lot of hands (usually 4 tables, 6 player max, all at the same time).

trust me, I play a lot online. Hands per Hour maybe 75-90. So at the most optomistic I would say 400 hands were palyed in that time.

Odds on a straight flush in any give hand is 72193 to 1
Odds on 4 oak in any given hand are 4165 to 1

Therefore, just for texas hold'em yesterday, I had 180 to 1 shot on 1 straight flush and 10 to 1 for one 4 oak

I hit 2 straight flushes and 4 4oaks.

180x180x10x10x10x10=324,000,000 to one and thats not even counting the other two 4oaks but they were in Omaha which has odds of maybe 2000 to 1 per hand.

believe me, under 100 hands an hour is not a lot, its a single fast 6 player table or at a push 2 medium paced tables ;]

i again put forward the argument that you were probably due those hands. if you add the last 48 hours that you played, add in the 4oaks and SF's and what sort of odds do you get then, then do the last 100 hours, 200 hours. how often over the hands do you get those hands?
how long before you get another?

like i said, im not saying it didnt happen, but you need to see the bigger picture. its like people who jump and scream about other people getting AA a couple of times in succession. yes its long odds but its more than possible if you play enough hands.

I was not saying that 90 hands per hour is a lot, but I play ring games 9 handed so it's about right. I have seen 6 handed tables plaing 10/20 cents hit 200, but I play higher limits.

yeah, but those are the sorts of tables that EVERYONE should avoid :D

i personally used to play 2/4 and 3/6 (both NL, played PL a few times with higher limits, but nothing regularly), which at 6 player can still be pretty fast

Again, I am aware of statistical grouping and clusters. In my poker playing life I've not had 10 straight flushes, K high being the best, but too many quads to keep track of. It's been about a week since I last had quads and about 3 months since my last Straight Flush.

Only if you're not good enough to play them well ;) :p

I pay 2/4 9 handed which can be a bit slow. Not always but often. Regardless, even if the hands per hour are doubled, that still puts the odds at 5 million to one.
