My brothers 290 vapor-x died, so looking for a replacement. Doesn't need to be an upgrade, just something similiar.

The red dragon 590 seems to be a bargin at the moment at £150, but concerned about noise. Can't find any reviews of it at all, and user reviews of it and the 580 (same cooler I think) range from it's fine, to it's a vacuum cleaner. He doesn't play with headphones and is not super into pc stuff, so no undervolting or messing with fan curves to tame it, needs to be fine default/out the box.

Case is a cm 690 ii and the vapor-x ran about 75-80C on most games under load in it and was still nice and quiet.

So based on noise levels as well, rather than just price/performance, how are they?

Thanks.

Steer clear. I bought 2 and put in 2 separate systems.

1 has been rma'd for black screens and no signal issues.

Both are roaring hot and very loud without undervolting and trial and error with fan curves.

I built 2 systems recently with RX 570 Red Dragons. £130 they were I think.

Running fully at stock (because I don't have the time to tweak systems for other people) at full chat the card is...how can I best describe...pompous? It's not loud as in high pitched fan spinning loud, it's more a deep, consistent whoosh of air. There is a large volume of sound, but that's not necessarily "loud".

But to be honest, given how easy the Adrenaline software is to use, it's verging on lazy to say "well I can't be bothered to set fan curves because I'm not super into PC stuff" given it's literally a couple of clicks. To be entirely honest though, getting a card with a beastly cooler to give quiet operation out of the box without any fiddling at all is going to cost a good chunk of money, is spending a couple of minutes playing with a graph not worth £100+?
