Police Helicopters

It is able to reach any part of the county in 12 minutes.

 12mins!

The police coptor is out 2/3 times a week in brighton here, then again i don't live in the nicest area in the world :o

I see the Brighton (Sussex police) one go past most days, tends to be following cars up an down the A23 or heading up towards burgess hill/ Haywards heath area. Last year the were searching for a hit and run driver around the fields, he was hiding in a hedge but not for long once the copter :D showed up.

It would be a vast improvement if they could sit a sniper up there, tranquilise the little turds, saving time and money. :)

All they seem to do on the telly is full the thing up

So in Moulscoombe then?

I wouldn't know. I live in the crime free paradise of the north-east.

* Disclaimer. The above may be slighly inaccurate *

An example I give is in the early 1990's and car crime was rife up here, they had to have a guard on the Sierra Cosworth used by Jimmy Nail in the filming of Spender. If it was left unattended, it was prime pickings for the TWOC squads of the day whose vehicle removal abilities would put an F1 pit crew to shame.

i'll join the general chorus of far from a waste of money.

A lot of what the helicoptors do isn't very exciting, i mean what's exciting about locating someone whose done a runner and is hiding, however it does mean that the police can find and capture those people much faster, and when it reaches court you've got great evidence to use.

It's also (as already mentioned) follow stolen cars or vehicles used in crimes safely and at a distance, co-ordinate the cops on the ground, take photographic evidence from a unique perspective etc etc.

Exactly from what I've seen it's usually a few yobs on a bike or the odd shoplifter, when they got to court they will get a slapped wrist and sent out to do it again, is there any calculation done on the amount of money it cost to get a conviction and if the conviction ever stuck!

So I can see the arguement for search and rescue and car chasing but the other stuff just seems a little daft ;)
