Don't read anything into this... Just a random question.

Do Ford Transit Connect vans have Speed guns in the them? Infact, do ALL police cars have radar speed equipment in them? I mean like Handheld stuff?

thanks

Franno

If a police officer has placed a handheld Radar gun in a vehicle then it will have one in it. Given they are not used inside the vehicle it doesnt really matter?

What is the standard procedure for using a hand held gun? Do they use a T5 Interceptor further along the road etc to pull the speeding car over? Also, are there any infrared mobile cameras which have numberplate recognition in the dark? Cheers

don't they occasionally use them out the drivers side window when parked up on those 'Police Vehicles Only' ramps?

I think someone's been out for a hoon! :p

:D

As far as I was aware, mobile cars don't run speed cameras, but have video cameras and calibrated speedos, so they'd follow you if they thought you were speeding and work your speed out, then pull you over.

EDIT: If parked they will either follow you or there could be a few pursuit cars/bikes further down the road that they can radio to, and they will nab you...they certainly do this on Henley Road in Reading.

I have a question to add.

Can they get you going away from them while facing down an on-ramp to a dual carraigeway?

On the same side. So we're facing the same direction but the police car is sat on the access road to the dual carraigeway before entering it.

I'd guess they car, as they can chase you in need be. I'm not sure though.

I know that round here at my parent's, where I join the dual carriageway to go into Cornwall, they like to sit on the slip road and catch people coming down the hill towards them at speed, then chase after them.

Here is where they sit, and catch people going West.

But I wouldn't be surprised if they do similar with normal sliproads that lead onto the carriageway normally.

Yes they can get you heading towards them or away from them. Generally with there weapon of choice a LTi 20-20 they take you head on so they get a picture of the driver but there is nothing stopping them clocking the speed of a car going away from them.

Normally the LTi 20-20 is in a van however they do have a hand held model which records video so they don't need to chase after the car for a verbal NIP they can send one out in the post. They can also get your speed from 999metres away which means the van/car is very small to the naked eye.

Key thing is though, if a copper is in a marked police car with a laser gun, he will follow you and pull you over. So if nobody follows you, you've got away with it.

As for the OP, not all ford transit vans are speed camera vans. Most are just riot vans used for transporting plod around to football matches etc..

The ones to watch out for ar the ones with the windows in the back / side doors but no windows anywhere else. Usually have slightly different stickers saying camera partnership or whatever.

The other ones to watch out for are the plane white vans with two rear windows. They're ANPR cameras, but they're only interested in you if you havent paid your tax / driving a stolen vehicle etc..
