Just passed my initial recruitment test and have an interview next week. Just wondering if any one here has joined the specials and what the interview was like and what they ask?

Cheers

When I went for mine, they were quite polite when greeting me;

"Hello hello hello"

Questions they asked;

"What going on 'ere then?"

With all due respect, it may be a noble cause, but what the country needs is to stop wasting money on specials constables, and PCSO's, and use the money to recruit proper police so we can actually tackle some crime rather than the chavs on the streets just laughing at them. In fact, one of our local bobbies when dealing with some criminal activity in our area recently actually said that.

They are trying to save money at the minute so are not really taking on full time police. Specials have the exact powers as a normal police and don't get paid for the work. Just the cost for training. PCSO's on ther other had have hardly any powers and get paid?! I don't understand why its like that.

I dont know much about the interviews but if your successful its much easier to land a full time police job when the chance comes, so its a good stepping stone.

FYI there's a really big thread 'The Police Appreciation Thread' or something that has a lot of questions and answers and discussion about the force, might be a good idea to do a search and revive that :)

As long as you're not a special at the time of applying. My dad applied 3 times whilst he was a special, but got rejected everytime. He quit the specials, applied 6 months later and got in.

Ah ok thanks I read that a while ago and just seen some praises. Didn't actualy realise it had info about applying for specials. Will take a look :)

if you havent already youll get a pack through the post soon descsribing the role profile, some info about the force and stuff about the core competencies, learn these!!
use it to think of examples of times you have done stuff in your life, i.e. respect for race and diversity, lots of stuff in life come under this and you dont realise it.
so long as you dont panic and learn your stuff interview is a piece of ****,
good luck

Your response indicates you dont fully grasp what a Special is or does. Its a pretty good way to save money IMHO.... You spend a couple of grand on training and then save around 22K a year not having to pay them.

Dont confuse Specials with PCSO's. Special Constables have the exact same powers as regular cops and so can tackle crime in the same way. The restrictions they have are purely brought about by the force they work for and the opportunities and training they are given.

PCSO = waste of money (may as well have a police officer), every one I've ever met has been on an ego trip and I can't stand them.
Specials = good - they are a free police officer, do it because they want to, and have the same powers.
