Polishing a heatsink

Is it allright if I use a buffing wheel on the underside of my new Thermalright Ultra Extreme-120? I don't have fine-grade sandpaper!

It will end up smooth but not flat. Flatness is what you want. I don't think it's a good idea.

Go buy some sandpaper, you cheap git!

Polishing is to remove swirl marks and give it that extra bling, AFTER you Flaten it.

Well, it's flat enough, untypically for TRUEs, but it's slightly scratched. I would get some sandpaper, but I wanted to do it tonight...

You can try it, but in my estimation at best it won't change much and at worst it can set you back to a point at which you'll have to head out and get the equipment to lap it, not polish it.

Ah well, I'll install it and if I find the temps are on the high side I'll go get some sandpaper next week.
