Polishing iPhone 6S screen

I'm a bit disappointed with my 6S I got it on launch day but it already has lots of hairline scratches in the screen and I'm always careful with it.

I've had (still have) a 3G and a 4S, and neither of them have a scratch in sight.

So I was thinking of trying to remove the scratches, and then get a screen protector.

I've got loads of various car polishes and I've also read about toothpaste and bicarb paste. The only thing putting me off is whether I'm going to do more damage.

Will I do anything worse than remove the oleophobic coating? I know you can get a liquid replacement and also some screen protectors come with oleophobic coating.

I just want to make sure I'm not going to do any serious damage or void the warranty before I get polishing.

P.s. any recommendations for screen protectors?

Cheers!

Definitely go with a tempered glass one, recently brought a je tech one (actually comes with two) for little over a fiver and it's pretty decent.

Always had a glass screen protector from day one, given the state of the current one (I'm always careful, never put it in with keys etc) I'd suggest they are a good idea for anyone.

I'm not sure that is a good indicator of damage to the screen without one. The screen is much tougher than the protector. What's the point? When you sell it on you won't get much more and someone else will enjoy a scratch free screen.

I've never used one and don't have any noticeable scratches but then I don't put it in the same pocket as keys.

Yup I didn't even power on my new 6S until the tempered glass screen protector and hard case had arrived. That said I am normally terrible keeping my phones in pristine condition.

The thing is, I am very careful - I don't put it in the same pocket as keys (or anything else for that matter) and I'd had no problems with my previous phones…

I'll give the polish a go and get a tempered glass screen protector.

cant really polish the screen without removing the oleophobic coating or worse

OP.. careful you dont trash your phone.

... if you do try, then before and after pics would be good for others considering similar...

I didn't suggest the screen protectors were as strong as the OE glass, I'd still suggest using a screen protector - Rhinoshield is my preferred weapon of choice, but even the big standard £1 stuff seems OK.

As to the other suggestion about not f'ing your girlfriend to keep her fresh for the next guy, that analogy works for cars and bikes, not for phones with a glass screen protector.

I don't bother with protectors any more as the screens are tough enough to not need one. No loose change, keys, etc. with my phone and the only scratch it has had (iPhone 6 from launch) was caused by someone else.

The point is that if you do manage to get a major scratch in it, with a protector you can take it off and put a new one on and the phone is as good as new for the cost of ~£5-10.

Without a screen protector, you either have to "deal with it", or replace the actual screen for the cost of ~£100+

***UPDATE***

Yeah, don't bother.

I got the fine scratches out, but it just makes the deeper scratches more obvious.

Also, I think unless you've got a new phone, the screen protector is a waste of time too. You also need a hermetically sealed room to apply it without getting dust under it, and I hated the look / feel of the phone with it on.

I think I'll try that liquid glass stuff as a last-ditch effort, but otherwise I'm just going to live with the scratched screen.

The glass screen protector are great. Have a full screen Spigen for my 6 plus.

I really wasn't impressed.

I went for a JETech Tempered Glass Premium - over 4,000 reviews and #1 best seller on the river place.

Th fit isn't amazing and with an Apple leather cover, there's a weird little gap causing a ridge between the edge of the protector and the case.

It just didn't feel right.

I bought a ESTech one and it went on straight away perfectly. I just made sure I followed the instructions. No air bubbles or a spec of dust.. I even got a new one for my old 5S and that went on perfectly and it was a JETech one. Thought the fit on both were superb. I really like the way the ESTech one is full cover and I got the one with the white bits to match my silver phone.

Had no issues with glass screen protectors, granted I did fit them from new, but i've replaced a few for friends/family over the last 18 months and the only one I had an issue with was the ipad mini which was a pain.
