I'd like to upgrade my centre speaker and doing a bit of research this speaker seems to do well for the price. However, I can't for the life of me find a UK seller for this. Even on fleabay they are all from the USA, is it a discontinued line?

If so, are there any other recommendations for around £150-200?

Amazon have it listed from a 3rd party at £320.

If you go and spend £320 on a Polk CS10, message me your address and I'll come round and use it to beat some sense in to you. LOL :D

The reason you won't find many UK Polk dealers is because Polk is a value brand in the US, but setting up UK distribution and support makes it expensive here. Also, even without the price hikes, it's nothing more than an average performer in the UK market where competition is much stiffer than the US.

The bottom line is that if you wanted to live in a country that does lower-cost speakers exceptionally well then you couldn't pick anywhere better in the world than the UK. We have more homegrown talent and European competition than you could shake a stick at.

To put it a different way, when budget UK brands such as Wharfedale are reviewed in the US, we give their homegrown products a hell of a kicking despite the UK-to-US import and distribution costs; that's how good our UK and European speakers are.

The general advice when choosing a new single speaker is to stay within the brand you currently own. This helps to ensure a similar sonic signature across all of the
speakers.

What's the brand of the speakers you own?

No need to come round! I didn't realise they would be that much when I looked at the american prices...

Thanks for the explanation, makes sense.

I currently have tannoy SFX 5.1 speakers which was a hand down from my brother, many, many years ago. Although just checking online and my centre speaker doesn't match the wider one online, it's the same as the other speakers. I bought a Sony STR-DN1060 about 4 years ago.

The obvious candidate is something from the Tannoy range to match the rest of the kit. The Mercury or Eclipse centres would be sensible.... if you can someone with stock.

As speakers, they'll be an easier load for your amp compared to the SFX kit centre, and of course they'll produce a deeper more rounded sound thanks to the larger drivers delivering better midrange and bass.

Naturally these speaker's are physically much bigger than the SFX centre. That's what happens when you move up a league.

Thanks for the help. Found a few Mercury's on the fleabay so will take a look.

Next year I plan on upgrading all the speakers when we move house.
