Poll: Poll - Renting or mortgage

Following on from this thread, I'm interested in the split of how many OcUK folks rent versus those who have a mortgage.

Could a passing mod please turn this into a poll please!
- I rent
- I have a mortgage/own my house

It would be useful if people said how old they are as well, as the older generation are more likely to own there own house.

I think most people would agree that house prices are expensive, but I'm not convinced they are as unaffordable as many people seem to think. I'm also aware that some people are renting because they want to rent, not because they can't afford to buy.

Personally I have just got a mortgage and I'm 25.

Thanks for all the votes. Makes for quite interesting reading.

It seems that plenty of people have mortgages, including many younger folks which surprised me a little. And for those that rent, there seems to be quite a few that do it out of choice, although the majority would rather a mortgage, which is what I expected.

Now is this a fair representation of the general public? Or do you think the members of this place are generally higher earners or have nice parents that help them out?

I think a lot of people here are computing enthusiasts which isn't a particularly cheap hobby, so are probably doing ok for themselves which probably swings the votes slightly.

Would be interesting to see national statistics on this.
