Could a kindly Don make this a poll please?

Out of the following movies, which is the best Spielberg (directed, natch) film? If you think his best is not in the list then tell us what is (and why) and then just vote on which of the listed ones is the best of that bunch. If you need a reminder of what the great man has helmed (dontcha hate that phrase?), go here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000229/

So...

Duel
Jaws
Close Encounters
Raiders of the Lost Ark
E.T.
Jurassic Park
Saving Private Ryan
War of the Worlds

I'd vote WotW personally. Controversial maybe, but I really think he nailed it. Jurassic Park and Raiders would be close behind. So, what do we think?

I've added a poll, together with a few other choices.

I can't decide whether to go for Jaws, Schindler's List or Saving Private Ryan, all three are superb films in my book.

Thanks Kev. Can't see many votes coming the way of A.I. tho :D

Not getting as many voters as I'd hoped - maybe the choice is too hard :)

Another War of the Worlds fan boy here! I think its a masterpeice, watched it last night for about the 5th time lol!

Yeah, it didn't work for a lot of people but I loved it. My only niggle was that he showed the aliens - I thought that was a mistake personally.

AI gets my vote. I know it's not popular and some scenes(the bikers chasing the robots springs to mind)are awful.

But the concept of the story I found fascinating and thought provoking. He captured the turmoil of the child and you end up empathising with a machine!

I thought he was quite restrained as well; he didn't get too "Hollywood" by getting soppy.

I didn't think AI was at all bad - I quite enjoyed it actually. But his best film? Come now, surely you jest? :)

SPR is a fantastic film, no doubt, but I'm surprised by the massive lead it's taken in the poll. I expected the older classics like E.T. and Close Encounters to get more votes - maybe it's because the average age on here is quite young?

Anyway, keep the votes coming!

Well, the poll seems to have topped out and SPR is the easy winner. Quite surprised by the margin of victory. When I started the thread I was expecting a real even split to be honest - I'm shocked some of the classics got such few votes! Interesting stuff anyway :)
