==OCUK GAME SERVER==

We have a game server that we can use! (Hurraaaah)

We had a poll to decide which game to put on this server:

The server is owned by me, and is kindly being managed by ThaReaperGuy! If anybody would also like to help out, or give advice/suggestions then please feel free to do so!

ThaReaperGuy is currently configuring a 16 slot (I think)
Left4Dead2 server due to popular demand. When the
server is up we will investigate the load on the server and
decide whether we can install a second server on the machine.

I will be looking for aome testers tonight as I will be keeping the server up throughout the weekend.
I am installing Metamod and Sourcemod onto the server to help with admin and running of the server.

Once done I'm looking for 8 people to help test a few things:
  • 8 Players / 16 players can be done for campaign / versus.
  • Connection speed with more players is OK, ideally looking for a spread of people across the UK/EU
  • Server load, to determine what we can handle in the future

If the above goes well I will keep the server up over the weekend for everyone to test/join and see how it runs over a short period in terms of Memory and CPU usage.

Detailed server info for us nerds:
The server is hosted with Hetzner in Germany.
It has an i7-3770 with 16GB of ram.

Speedtest to Cambridge:

It's currently running Proxmox on it, and the VM that we are using has been allocated 4 logical cores and 10GB of ram, with 100GB of disk space.

The server has a dedicated IP: 5.9.40.221

I'd be interested in being Admin, as I like to understand Server stuff for work :D.

But how much time will I need to commit?
My time would be 8PM till 12 on weekdays and free on the weekends.

Will have a google around about it as I'm interested :)

Voted: L4D2, always have wanted to play this properly with MP. BF4 has plenty of servers we can hijack/use, Arma 3 is a game I can't get interested in, too slow and too much time required.
However if we/I get savvy with setting up game servers, we can always switch around :)

And we have a volunteer! Yeah it's good fun getting into it, just have a look at a few videos on youtube and such... It's a windows machine which might make things simpler.

Time wise, it probably wouldn't even be that much time needed... Just popping on frequently to make sure everything is in order, then if any bugs/issues arise, you fix them when you can I guess!

Would have been happy with Linux/Unix to be fair! :)

Browsing some video's now while I tidy up some disk space, found a decent tutorial for L4D2.
 
So it's looking like L4D2.....sweet. I'll definitely be up for some of that. Nice one Matty for the server and Reaper for offering his time to set it up.

Looking at a possible solution for multiple games, seems possible.
Also, depending on how much memory allocation is required, we could have 2 different games setup (depending on what I can learn)!

It also looks possible to have setup game servers on a ad-hoc basis so bring one down and bring another up within 5 minutes.

Battlefield 4 - I have been looking around and EA haven't released server files to the public! Only selected hosting companies are allowed to do so from EA, I'll continue to dig around, but BF4 may not be an option.
 
L4D2 OOOOoo! Now I might be interested aint played in a while but I have around 500 hours on versus! ;)

Death Charger here we come! :D
