Because having four wives is OK under Sharia law, it is now OK in the UK, as muslims are more special than anyone else.
And although you are supposed to be able to support four wives, it is also OK to claim benefits for all of them if you can't. Which is nice.

I'm OK with going along with whatever laws the EU dream up, but I'm not OK with misogynist chattel laws dreamt up in some backwater country, that we then have to legally recognise and to pay for out of our taxes.

I was under the impression that people came to Britain to live in our superior culture, not to force us to follow their medieval one?

Don't you guys get bored of this incessant Muslim talk?

I understand that people are quite strongly opinionated on it (including myself) but don#t you get bored repeating the same drivel about it over and over again?

I never get bored of facing down magical sky pixies. They try an insert their crap on everyone else in society, which leaves us no choice but to ridicule it and tear it down for the garbage it is.

Particularly when the OP's links are from 2008!

Pretty sure you have to get married in the UK for it to be recognised legally so technically he won't have four wives will he?

It is the same as getting married abroad, you don't stop being married once you get here.

Apologies, didn't notice the links were old, I only noticed on a recent posting elsewhere.
still an issue is an issue.

Your intentions, whilst noble, would make a lot more sense if you weren't doing the ridiculing and tearing down in what amounts to an echo chamber. It's like posting "lefties are bad, private ownership of everything is the only way" and thinking that you're somehow challenging the status quo.

Exactly - it's like the annoying (apologies in advance) stupid 'darwin fish' on the back of cars. Yup there's no better way to show someone the light than by deliberately antagonising them - good job!

I can see that argument, but I can also see the argument that it is sensible to recognise foreign marriages.

Yes, like we would recognise a gay marriage held in another country.
We do that to create some kind of equality amongst genders identities and to create a sort of recognisable family unit.

But marriage in the UK is also a legal construct, so it seems unfair to subvert that by creating a new structure.

I'd also suggest that the very last thing an immigrant community wants is some rich bloke hogging all the women. Not exactly a stable situation if your best chance of finding a wife is then trotting off to join ISIS

Never really seen an issue with polygamy.

It can cause a few issues with the rights involved in marriage. E.g. Next of Kin rights. It also makes inheritance more difficult and various other tax arrangements.

Finally it tends to be very much a one sided patriarchal affair that runs roughshod over the rights of women.

Different angle, but what about bi-sexual people? I know a couple of bi's who are in straight marriages but have extra-material relationship with 1 other person of the same sex. Personally, I don't have a problem with it as long as they're over 16 and all parties consent to it. Plus, in legal terms, they're only married to 1 person.

7 years old story. Lock imo.

Not sure what to make of the Muslims though. Granted, 7 year old story is 7 years old, but then again, Princes Diana died in 1997 which makes that story 18 years old.

Aww Diddums :-)

Freedom of speech and all that. This is a forum. An open forum.
