Evening,

I bought a Samsung SM-226CW t'other day and it seems quite good, however, I'm wondering now if I should have gone for the SM-245BW....

Now, the monitor will mostly be used for gaming and a bit of browsing/irc for which 1650x1080 will be more than adequate, however, I'm pondering doing a bit of dev work where the extra "real-estate" may be useful.

Is 1920x1200 @ 24" vastly bigger than 1650x1080 @ 22"?

it's quite a nice upgrade imo, you really do notice the difference in resolution, even if the screen size is only 2" more :)

I have an 8800GT, it's quite happy at running everything I've thrown at it so far (UT3, TF2 etc) at native res of the 22" (1650x1080).

If I have to run the 24" at a lesser res than native, how well does the image scale? I'm used to quite "blocky" interpolation from my previous Hercules 920 Propher and Dell E173.

interpolation tends to be much better nowadays, so for gaming, it's probably not going to be an issue if you cant quite run at 1680 x 1050 :) some 24" models have aspect ratio retention as well at a hardware level, and 1:1 pixel mapping, but the SM245B doesn't./ prob not an issue, as you can let it scale :)

You'll notice a big difference in the responsiveness if you upgrade imo but 24" does seem a lot bigger so its a toughy. If your play a lot of first person shooters though you'd be a madman to change your 226cw for anything else :D

I think i've lost my picture of when i had both (samsung 226bw + dell 2407wfp) on my desk! I didn't use them at the same time but more for different games. It sorta worked out like this...

226bw ..

Quake type games / anything remotely first person shooty or in some cases third person shooty if the fov was really low (i get dizzy easily :p)

Dell 2407wfp

Clear winner on browsing / pro evo / slow noob games ( like gf playing world of woofters on my pc :p ). map editing....

For each of them types of games that particular screen was the clear winner but i eventually replaced my 226bw for an oldschool 22" CRT which obviously is even better in first person shooters and cost massively less. I raved and raved about the 226bw because of its response time for a tft (which is great) but the dell 2407wfp is sooo much easier to live with and unfortunately once you've seen them side by side it made the 226bw look a bit "micky mousey" :( because of the size difference and also the colours i guess too.

I've taken the 226CW back, shall see what the 245B is like. If I don't like it, I'll get another 226CW.

Really liked it, would just have liked more "estate". Of course, if the 245B has noticable latency I'll be running screaming.

Hi, please post your comments. The badass review in tftcentral shows the 245B as having really low latency.
